Sophie Grégoire Trudeau on why we learned to perform instead of belong
Sophie spoke about authenticity in a way that felt less like a social media idea and more like something deeply biological and emotional.
Authenticity, she explained, is not about confidence or self-expression for performance. It can be viewed as being able to live as your real self without constantly reshaping who you are just to gain approval or validation from others.
As children, we often learn to adjust ourselves to be loved or accepted and as adults, we sometimes keep doing this without realising it.
Here’s what you will learn from the episode:
• Humans are wired for belonging before performance
• Authenticity is being yourself without performing for approval
• Early childhood experiences shape how we trust and relate to others later in life
• Healing requires both solitude and community
• Social media can amplify what we think everyone believes
“Sometimes it’s the living environment that we have to change in order for us to find ourselves again”

I’ve come to realise that the future won’t be built by technology alone, but by stronger human connection. If this conversation resonated with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it.
See you next week,

A simple practice
When things feel overwhelming, try this.
Inhale slowly for five seconds.
Pause for one second.
Exhale slowly for ten seconds.
Repeat for a few minutes.
Sometimes the simplest practices are the most powerful.
This is a practice shared to me by four-time world free-diving champion, Stig Severinsen.
Thinking about the future
This week I tried something new.
I went out and asked people a simple question:
Do you think World War 3 is going to happen this year?
The answers were honest, sometimes anxious or surprisingly hopeful, while some people were certain and others were unsure.
It reminded me that beneath global headlines, people are still trying to make sense of uncertainty in their own lives.
